“The idea is to chart the musical life of Paris from 1920 – 1940 through the eyes of the great Francis Poulenc, who was alternately and equally interested in the city’s downtown nightlife and the highest of high art. From the carefree jazz age into the instability of the depression and the rise of fascism in all directions, Poulenc lived in his beloved Paris, and his music reflects a great society next to an increasingly menacing power, while still maintaining its own character.
